Parents have a right to know what is being taught to their children in our schools. That's true in the classroom - and it is true if it is happening in a club or activity.
Unfortunately, most of Alberta's school boards currently have a policy that says "notification, if any" of such clubs or activities "shall be limited to the fact of the existence of such a club or event." This means that if your child joins, say, a gay-straight alliance club, staff and teachers cannot discuss this to you -even if your child develops or reveals psychological issues connected with their attendance. Regardless of how one feels about such clubs, these are bad policies - and they need to go.
