There is some indication that Premier Alison Redford wants to move away from some of the standardized testing which Alberta has relied on in the past to measure student achievement. She suggested during the PC leadership race that she wants to get rid of the tests for grade 3 and 6 students. I recently came across on exchange on the Edmonton Journal blog which pretty clearly brings out both sides of this debate over standardized testing. It's worth a read. Our organization takes the few that, in certain kinds of environments, standardized testing is important because it gives parents information about how well their students are doing.
