Happy New Year!  As we enter 2021 we extend our warmest wishes to you and your family. 

Parents for Choice in Education (PCE) will be focusing attention on several key initiatives this upcoming year, including those highlighted below.

We invite you to get involved as you are able to!  It is your engagement and support in these opportunities which will make a difference and help move the needle to strengthen excellence in education through maximum parental choice! 

Our hearts go out to Alberta’s K-12 students and their parents who continue to deal with the ongoing uncertainty and burdens related to the pandemic and the various COVID-related measures impacting K-12 education. 

In the midst of these current challenges, PCE continues to advocate for strengthening choice in education in Alberta and offers the following fall updates.

“Canada is a grand experiment.” Those words rang out, closely accompanying the dear words of the Oath of Citizenship - the culmination of my long and costly (in countless senses) undertaking to become a Canadian citizen. The judge was taking one last chance to instill in us the values to which every Canadian should aspire - especially the value of pluralism. He explained that Canada has the unique heritage of being founded on the ideal of pluralism - not pretending that differences can be wished or washed or “melted” away, but valuing the unique contributions those differences provide. Canadian exceptionalism - if we can boast such a thing - lies in thoroughly applying this ideal, down to the level of schools.

New PCE editorial and TV interview!

Thanks to the National Telegraph for publishing PCE’s response to a recent attack on education choice launched by a former Alberta Teachers’ Association president.

PCE also did a TV interview with Tanya Granic Allan, former president of Ontario’s Parents as First Educators, on her new show “Counterpoint”, where PCE’s Executive Director, Jeff Park, had the opportunity to highlight Alberta’s leadership on education choice.

Heading into this new school year, we have a new law, the Choice in Education Act, and a new set of regulations pursuant to that law.

First, a quick explanation: didn’t Parents for Choice in Education (PCE)  already review the Choice in Education Act? Yes, we did!

And when we did so, we mentioned “the degree to which genuine choice is actually supported through these changes will be highly dependent on forthcoming regulations”.
